What is a web domain?
A web domain name is a web address by the structure of latter, numbers, hyphens, or more periods which is added by an IP address to help the visitor to the server computer or web hosting server where the data or file of that name is stored.
Example: www.example.com, www.technicalsp.com etc.
How does web domain name work?
It works in DNS (domain name system). DNS is an address book on the Internet that helps visitors translate the website name, change the number sequence to an IP address, and find out where the domain name’s stored files are. As a result, you can see the website publicly hosted by that domain name.
What is the different type of domain?
There are many types of domain names. Let’s take a look at what they are –
TLD(TOP LEVEL OF DOMAIN)
It is one of the Internet’s most widely used DNS structures. Again, there are some parts of it, such as –
- CCTLD (COUNTRY CODE TOP LEVEL OF DOMAIN) – Domain names of this type mainly indicate the geographical location of a country, for example, .au, .us, .in, etc. here – .au refers to Australia, .us refers to the United States, .in referring to India.
- GTLD (GENERIC TOP LEVEL DOMAIN) – Most belong to the Generic Top Level Domain. Examples – .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, etc. These can be used by anyone anywhere in the world.
- IDNCCTLD (INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY CODE TLD) – This type of domain name is not limited to just words or numbers but can be different word numbers, alphabets, etc. It depends on the ASCII of the DNS.
SLD(SECOND LEVEL OF DOMAIN)
These domain names are to the left of the TLD domain. They are direct to the left of the TLD domain (.com, .net, .info, etc.). Such as – tech.co.us, here “.co” is the second level of the domain.
TLD(Third level of domain)
This type of domain name is to the left of the second-level domain. Example – support.google.com “Support” is a third-level domain. This type of domain name is often called a sub-domain.
